Mitochondrion is a double membrane-bound organelle found in all eukaryotic organisms.

MitoRep is an interdisciplinary project, which combines Evolutionary Biology with Medical Genetics and Fish Biology.

​

Its goal is to develop a vertebrate -zebrafish- as an experimental model-system that will be used to study the newly developed approach of mitochondrial replacement therapy (MRT), as well as fundamental questions on the genetics and the evolution of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), such as mito-nuclear interactions and the dynamics of heteroplasmy.
